As another week has gone by more tech stories have emerged. My follow-up is dedicated to women to honor the end if National Women’s Month. Here are my top tech stories of the week:

Is Speaking Up Becoming an Issue for Women?

Last week I wrote about tech women in the workplace. Therefore, I had to mention a great discussion that I watched this past weekend on MSNBC regarding sexism in the tech world. Facebook Goes Red

You may have noticed that Facebook was overcome with a presence of red over the past week. Countless people changed their Facebook profile picture to red equal signs in order to show support for the same-sex marriage cases that went before the Supreme Court on March 26th-27th. Did you ever think a simple image could go viral via Facebook?

“There’s a special place in hell for you”

You probably are thinking who said this and why?! This is in regards to Sheryl Sandberg and her new book called “Lean In”, a book on women advancing in the workplace. The book has received lots of praise AND lots of criticism but it was a particular review made by Katherine Losse that raised temperatures. Losse said

Why not focus on renovating the pay structure so that women aren’t denied raises in order to make male peers more comfortable? The faster my career accelerated at Facebook, the more my financial returns diminished…Leaning in, then, starts to look like it can benefit companies more than it benefits workers, if companies, while asking that their women employees “lean in,” refuse to commit to equitable pay.

Now Brandee Barker, a former Facebook public relations executive who has been promoting the book, did not like Losse’s opinion. Thus in response, Barker messaged Losse on Twitter and said, “There’s a special place in hell for you.” Since the comment Barker’s twitter has gone silent and she has not commented about the situation.

Intense response? I’d say so. But turns out the two women are former co-workers. Is this a case of personal drama now intertwined with business? Only time will tell…

I forgot a wonderful lady on my hottest women in technology today post that I feel deserves recognition. That woman is Kathryn Finney, founder and Managing Director of digitalundivided. Digitalundivided (DID) is a social enterprise that builds forward thinking initiatives that fundamentally change the digital space by increasing the number of Black and Latino women digital entrepreneurs. Finney provides guidance and strategy on the overall direction of the company. She has won numerous awards and honors including, AOL’s Top 10 Women in Money, Black Enterprise’s 40 Stars Under 40, Silicon Alley 100, and Essence Magazine’s Woman of Style. So Kathryn I want to take time to recognize you as one of the hottest women in technology today too.
