Everyone is guilty of it at some point… Always being on the move. Always taking care of others before taking care of ourselves. Lately self-care has been a major issue that seems to be plaguing a lot of people. I’m glad people are finally realizing its time to put themselves first. So on this maniac Monday let me share a few things I do for self-care:
Yoga/Mediation: I know what you’re thinking, the cliché Yoga/mediation line. But have you truly tried either method? Yoga and meditation allows you to focus on yourself, your breathing, your movements. It takes you to another place completely if you let it. So why not give it a try!
Journaling: Every morning I wake up and journal (some people call it morning pages). I journal as a way to start my day with a completely clear mind. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out a way to say how we’re feeling but journaling gives me a way to acknowledge my feelings, fears, motivations and to let the garbage that I don’t need in your head GO.
Exercise: Exercise can instantly change your mood so why not get your endorphins going? I try to exercise 3-4 times a week to keep my energy high and to escape the busyness of the day. So next time you feel a rut coming hop up and do some jumping jacks or maybe some boxing if you’re really mad.
Talk to someone: Everyone needs someone they can confide in and that’s the person you go to when you’ve just had enough. A good old vent session is needed every once in a while so you get all the craziness out of your system. Not only will you feel better but you could possibly get some really good advice or see things from another perspective after.
Slow down: In today’s world we are always on the go. Moving, thinking, doing. But when do we SLOW DOWN?! Everyday take some time to yourself to think and reflect. Put down the phone, turn off the TV, and just enjoy yourself. This can by reading a book, drinking a glass of wine, a nice hot bath, whatever floats your boat. Personally I’m always about taking a solo trip and regrouping.
So what do you do as a form of self-care? Share with us in the comments!
Nice and simple advice!
